ALEXANDRIA -- Not only can creating turnovers go a long way in creating victory on the football field, making sure they become touchdowns can do the same thing.

Friday night Juniata Valley forced six turnovers and turned them into 26 points as they shutout Curwensville, 40-0, in ICC action at A.R. Simkins Memorial Field.

Juniata Valley defensive back Dalton Weirich proved to be important in forcing the takeaways as he registered two of them -- one in each half.

Play of the game: Weirich's first interception came on a Liam Wisor pass to end what was a sustained opening drive for the Golden Tide. That led to an 80-yard touchdown pass from Liam Lightner to Elah Glenny on the next play

from scrimmage.

Player of the game: Weirich

Unsung heroes: There are plenty of unsung heroes in this one including the Green Hornet defensive unit. Offensively, Elah Glenny racked up 131 yards on three catches and two touchdowns. Andrew Clark thanks to his 169 yards on the ground on 18 carries with two catches for 44 yards and a combined three scores -- two on the ground.

Most vital statistics: Along with the points off turnovers, Juniata Valley outgained Curwensville through the air 219-71 and doubled up the Tide in total offense (436-217).

Juniata Valley coach Bill Musser on Weirich: "He's just one of those kids. His attitude is one of those infectious attitudes, he's pretty even keeled. He's always got a joke or something to talk about. Whenever he plays, he just plays and plays hard.''

Curwensville coach Brad Sopic: " "It has been a real learning year. We have a lot of young guys playing. Our seniors, they are playing their tails off. You can't ask anymore from those guys. We've got a lot of young guys, they're getting a lot of experience right now. We just got to put it together for four quarters.''

Musser on turnovers: "That was a big point of emphasis. We have some experience, and we just have to take advantage of every opportunity, and tonight we wanted to try to take advantage as quickly as possible.''

Notable: It was Military Appreciation Night and the Green Hornets wore special military style jerseys. ... Clark is now over the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season. ... Reed Hawkins was valiant in defeat for the Tide racking up 127 yards on 22 carries. ... Both teams punted once and the Hornets came up with another turnover thanks to a muffed kick. .... Both teams were called for four penalties each.

Records: Curwensville (0-9); Juniata Valley (6-3)

Next week: Curwensville welcomes Everett while Juniata Valley hosts Meyersdale next Friday.
