PATTON -- Cambria Heights made quick work of winless Conemaugh Valley in a 60-0 romp on Friday night at AmeriServ Bank Field.
Brayden DeArmitt sent Cambria Heights well on its way with four first-quarter touchdowns.
The Highlanders grabbed a 46-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. The rest of the game was played in 8-minute quarters and on a moving clock. The game concluded at 8:45 p.m.
The Heritage Conference-leading Highlanders remained one of four undefeated teams in all of District 6.
Play of the game: DeArmitt returned a free kick 60 yards to the Conemaugh Valley 5-yard line after Bryce Lewis tackled Michael Zahurek for a safety. DeArmitt ran for his second touchdown of the night from a 1 yard two plays later.
Player of the game: DeArmitt scored on runs of 1 and 30 yards, and caught touchdown passes of 32 and 54 yards from Nolan Clawson in the first quarter. He finished with 118 total yards, including 31 on the ground on two attempts.
Unsung hero: Brock Wharton took over at quarterback in the second quarter. His 8-yard touchdown run came on the Highlanders' only third-down play from scrimmage in the first half. That gave the hosts a 53-0 lead at halftime.
Most vital statistics: Cambria Heights held the winless Blue Jays to minus-17 yards. Thirteen of Conemaugh Valley's rushing attempts produced negative yardage. The Highlanders held the Blue Jays to two first downs (one by penalty), and produced 10 for themselves.
Conemaugh Valley coach Joe Antal: "We have to have a short memory. We have to go back to work on Monday, keep working on the things that we're not good at, which right now is a lot. We keep working, and it comes under pride and great determination. We want to get better."
Cambria Heights coach Jarrod Lewis: "We had some things we needed to work on and some things we needed to clean up. I thought we did some of that."
DeArmitt: "We treat every game the same (way). So we do what we have to do. And we leave and results on the field."
Notable: Cambria Heights ran off 23 plays from scrimmage, including 11 in the first half. … The Highlanders did not turn the ball over and did not punt. ... Eight players carried the ball for the Highlanders. ... Conemaugh Valley crossed midfield once. That came on a 43-yard pass completion from Layne Liwy to Justin Robine late in the truncated third quarter. ... The Blue Jays (0-6) lost their 18th consecutive game and their 33rd of the last 36.
