BOSWELL -- North Star ran for over 350 yards on the ground and dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball to hand the visiting Glendale Vikings a 48-22 defeat on senior night in front of a large crowd in Boswell.
Play of the game: Kasey Yoder hit Xavier Scott for a 40-yard touchdown strike in the final moments of the first half to extend the Cougars lead to 28-6.
Player of the game: North Star running back Will Eshleman carried the ball 13 times for 214 yards and two touchdowns and added one catch for another eight yards.
Unsung hero: Louis Lepley picked off a Levi Hamilton pass in the third quarter, just as it looked like the Glendale Vikings had some life, but after another Cougars touchdown put the Vikings down 48-14 both teams went to the younger players to get them valuable game experience.
Most vital statistic: With 353 yards on 39 carries the Cougars averaged over nine yards per carry to control the clock, and the scoreboard.
Glendale coach Chase Hill: "They ran the ball really well on us. They have some big bodies up front and we were not flying around like we usually do and that was the difference tonight. We will see how things shook out tonight and see what is next."
North Star coach Shane Smith: "I thought we responded well after an emotional game last week. Our lineman dominated the line of scrimmage, and last week we got manhandled a little bit last week, and they bounced back tonight. Now we can use this to head into a championship game next week."
North Star running back Will Eshleman: "We started kind of slow, but the line bounced back and opened up some big holes for me tonight," said Eshleman. "We wanted to get a win tonight and build off that momentum going into Everett next week."
Notable: Glendale kick returner Shane Beck returned the ball six times for 132 yards which was a 22-yard average. Glendale had 10 penalties for 60 yards, with nine of them being false starts on the offense.
Records: Glendale (4-6), North Star (8-2)
Next week: Glendale visits Bishop McCort in a District 6 Class 1A quarterfinal. North Star hosts Everett.
