JOHNSTOWN -- The Tyrone Golden Eagles closed out the 2026 season on a high note Friday night with a 38-12 victory over the Johnstown Trojans.
Tyrone fired on all cylinders, getting multiple seniors touchdowns on its way out, while dominating on defense. Johnstown struggled to move the ball, winding up with three punts and multiple turnovers.
"It's a bittersweet thing," Tyrone coach Jason Jones said. "I'm disappointed to see these seniors go and disappointed it's over.
"It was good to finish .500 for our seniors. Send those guys out with a win, but I'd be lying if I'd say we're going to be happy waking up tomorrow morning finishing 5-5."
Entering the game, Tyrone senior Mason Emigh was closing in on a 1,000-yard receiving season, sitting at 871 yards, but he failed to obtain it with just 102 yards on six catches.
By the second half, the Golden Eagles didn't get many drives on offense ,courtesy of a pick-six from Emigh and an 80-yard kickoff return by Colton Frye for scores
"I would have liked to have gotten Mason a 1,000-yard season," Jones said. "We did some things out of our element because we wanted to do a couple different things and we kind of got away from our game plan a little bit."
Tyrone got the game started with a 12-yard touchdown from Caleb Whitby. Johnstown responded with a long drive of its own. The Trojans got to the red zone and by third down, they were on the one-yard line, but the Golden Eagles' defense held strong.
Emigh's 30-yard touchdown reception, and then a fumbled snap on the punt by Johnstown allowed Tyrone to add a 43-yard field goal from Tytus Novak before the half.
In the third quarter, Tyrone completed a trick play as Ben Walk hit Emigh, who lateralled it to lineman Kyler Suhoney for the touchdown.
"So I hit the end for 2.5 seconds and I pulled off," Suhoney said. "He threw the ball and they tossed it back to me and I got the touchdown."
Stephon Hill Goodman got the Trojans on the board, who looked to gain some momentum, but Emigh's pick-six stalled that. Goodman then scored again, but Tyrone took the following kickoff 80 yards to complete the scoring at 38-12.
Play of the game: The game could have gotten really interesting if it weren't for Emigh's interception return for a score.
Johnstown coach Tony Penna: "There were some good things and the bad things are pretty much what's plagued us all year. We lost our quarterback early in the game and that hurt. They're a good ball club and they have some really, really good athletes."
Notable: Johnstown had more yards of offense.
Records: Tyrone (5-5), Greater Johnstown (1-9)
Next week: The season is over for both teams.
