ALEXANDRIA -- While both Glendale and Juniata Valley played largely to a stalemate in their Inter-County Conference clash in the first half Friday night, by the time the second half kicked off, it became clear that two things would be the difference.
The Viking offensive line, and Levi Hamilton not giving away his chance when he got the chance to carry the ball.
Hamilton carried the ball 16 times for 126 yards and two touchdowns in the fourth quarter alone as the Vikings doubled up the Green Hornets, 30-14, at AR Simkins Memorial Field.
"I think very, very highly of our line," Glendale coach Chase Hill said. "Our offensive line these first three games played amazing. They're really stepping up, doing what they're supposed to do, just making the right blocks, communicating, they were making the holes, credit to our backs in the back field for reading up through those holes."
Plays of the game: Hamilton broke off two runs of 15 yards and one of 25 yards over three drives that helped power both of his fourth-quarter touchdowns
Player of the game: Hamilton finished with 159 yards on the ground on 18 total attempts with three touchdowns - two on the ground and one through the air. He grabbed three catches for 40 yards.
Unsung heroes: The Viking defense allowed 169 yards of total offense to the Hornets for the game.
I got it, you take it: Both teams turn the ball over five times combined.
Hill on Hamilton: "He ran hard, I think very, very highly of our line. Our offensive line these first three games played amazing. They're really stepping up, doing what they're supposed to do, just making the right blocks, communicating, they were making the holes, credit to our backs in the back field for reading up through those holes.''
Juniata Valley coach Bill Musser: "The execution wasn't there at times. It's a popcorn effect. We had three kernels that were popping, and we had kernel that didn't pop on a play. When it didn't pop, that's one that they had. That comes from a week-long preparation. We have to make sure that we prepare better throughout the course of the week for a Friday night like that.''
Hamilton: "I couldn't be more happy with my guys up front. I didn't think I was going to rush the ball this game. I thought I was going to catch, get a lot of yards, maybe get a touchdown. I did my job, they did their job.''
Notable: It was the Green Hornets Senior Night. ... Juniata Valley was held to 71 yards of total offense in the second half. ... First downs were almost even with the Vikings record 17 to the Hornets 16. ... Glendale racked up 248 yards on the ground the Hornets 62. .. Both teams largely were penalty free as the Vikings were called for 4 for 26 compared to the Hornets 6 for 31.
Records: Glendale (1-2), Juniata Valley (1-2)
Next week: Glendale will host Curwensville while Juniata Valley travels to Southern Huntingdon next Friday.
