WILLIAMSBURG -- It couldn't have been a better homecoming night for Williamsburg student and Juniata Valley running back Andrew Clark at Williamsburg's Veterans Memorial Field.
During the pregame, he was crowned homecoming king.
Once the game got started you could tell he was eager to put on a show for his hometown as he racked up a staggering 222 yards on 18 carries with three touchdowns as the Hornets went on to defeat Claysburg-Kimmel, 58-14, in the Inter-County Conference contest.
"I'm just doing what I'm asked playing beside my brothers, playing as a team, playing as a unit," Clark said. "We just got the job done today and took care of business."
Hornets coach Bill Musser was happy to see him have a breakout moment.
"He had a couple of practices that we saw a different level of intensity with him. We were waiting for that breakout and it looked good tonight."
Play of the game: Claysburg-Kimmel's fake punt attempt was stuffed by Juniata Valley in the second quarter. It set up Clark's second touchdown with around 10 minutes.
Player of the game: Clark
Unsung heroes: The Hornet defense who forced three turnovers and came up with the early fourth-down stop to help put the game away.
Most vital statistics: Juniata Valley racked up 14 first downs to the Bulldogs five. They also held the Bulldogs to negative-3 yards rushing on 27 carries and more than doubled the entire offensive yard production (428-164).
Musser: "I thought we had a couple of kids step up. Dalton Weirich stepped up, had a great play in the first half (on an interception in the second quarter). It was fun to see some of the young kids get in and get to play, but we definitely have to increase our intensity from the get-go and we have to play a better first quarter.''
Claysburg-Kimmel coach Chuck Kassick: "We're always finding things every week that we're fixing. We have got a lot to fix. That reflects on me, and the guys that are trying to prepare these guys. It's very hard because our learning curve is so steep. Every time we come out here, we are the smallest team on the field by far. We're undersized, but we play hard. That's all I can ask.''
Clark on the opportunity to play at home: "The 'burg showed up tonight. There were a ton of people here tonight even though it was cold. It was just amazing to play in my hometown in front of all of these people I love, and all of these people I know. We got the job done, and got the win.''
Notable: This is the third time the Green Hornets have moved one of their home games from Alexandria to Williamsburg, the last coming in 2024. ... Trevor Brown, for the Bulldogs, was impressive in defeat, racking up four catches for 118 yards. ... Neither team punted during the second half. ... Anthony Neri's touchdown midway through the third quarter helped activate the running clock. Adilyn Isenberg was crowned homecoming queen while Ethan Reffner and Raina Alexander were honored as prince and princess.
Records: Claysburg-Kimmel (0-5), Juniata Valley (3-2).
Next week: Claysburg-Kimmel hosts Southern Huntingdon while Juniata Valley travels to Moshannon Valley next Friday.
