CRESSON -- Friday night couldn't have started better for the Chesnut Ridge football team as just over three minutes into the game, the Lions scored the game's first touchdown as Landyn Pincin found Marcus Weaver for a 60-yard score.
Going into the half it looked like the Lions were about to score again, but a missed field goal helped spark a Panther score before the break as Grant Gides reeled in a 25-yard pass from Brady Jones to tie the game at halftime.
Chestnut Ridge had another prime scoring opportunity midway through the third as the drove once again into the redzone at the Panther 10.
But Corbin Vinglish's interception thwarted what ended up being the Lions last best scoring chance. Penn Cambria scored 28 unanswered points as it beat Chesnut Ridge, 28-7, in Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference play.
"(The missed field goal) swung the momentum in our favor and then we drove right down the field and scored right before the half," Penn Cambria coach Jason Grassi said. "We came out of halftime fired up and ready to roll and we just played great football in the second half."

Player of the game: Vinglish, in addition to his takeaway, racked up 46 yards on 10 carries with a catch for 22 yards, which helped set up his touchdown.
Unsung hero: Penn Cambria's defense held Jayden Imler in check, allowing 43 yards on 15 carries. The Panthers held the Lions to 81 yards of total offense in the second half while stopping one drive on downs and on a punt in addition to the Vinglish turnover.
Most vital statistics: Chestnut Ridge racked up just eight first downs for the game.
Grassi on Vinglish: "They were hitting some passes across the middle, dragging the tight end and Corbin just does Corbin things. He's a smart football player and he dropped it where he needed to be. He has great hands he and picked it off. He's just a football player, I enjoy watching him play, he plays the right way.'
Chestnut Ridge coach Max Shoemaker: "We did a nice job coming out of the gates strong. That big play to Weaver was a big plus. They're a very good football team. They just kept coming at us and coming at us. Sooner or later they broke through a few times. I have to give credit to my guys for playing hard and playing a tough game. It was good physical match up.''
Vinglish on his interception: "Coach dialed up a read 2. I looked backside and seen (the receiver) cut in running the post and I jumped on it.''
Notable: The Panthers hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness and Teacher Appreciation Night. ... Penn Cambria with the win moved into second place in the District 6 class 3A playoff rankings with three games to play which puts them in position to possible host a postseason contest. ... Evan Latterner registered a passing and receiving touchdown for PC.
