Injuries force Mount Union season to end now

Mount Union, currently the No. 6 seed at 7-2 in District 6 Class 2A, decided to end its season Monday evening due to a rash of injuries.
The Trojans are coming off a loss to Claysburg-Kimmel during which star quarterback Nasir Collins was banged up and finished the game at less than 100 percent.
Earlier in the year, Mount Union played a game where just two players were in uniform as reserves.
"Due to a combination of injuries and a significantly depleted roster, Mount Union Varsity Football will not compete in the remaining games of the 2025 season. This difficult decision was made with the health and safety of our student-athletes as our top priority," read a post on the Mount Union Football's Facebook page. "We are incredibly proud of the effort, resilience, and commitment shown by our players and coaching staff this year. Thank you to our families, fans, and community for your unwavering support. We look forward to returning stronger next season."
District 6 chairman Ralph Cecere was contacted by the Mirror on Monday night and asked how Mount Union removing itself from the Class 2A playoffs would impact the field.
Cecere said each team below the Trojans in the current top eight would move up a spot but that teams that finish outside the top eight with Mount Union still on the list would not be eligible to move into the playoffs -- meaning the top seed in Class 2A, currently McCort-Carroll, would receive a first-round bye. Bellwood-Antis, currently No. 7, would move up to No. 6, and United Valley, currently No. 8, would move up to No. 7.
Eagles JVs triumph
TYRONE -- The Tyrone JV football team finished up its season at 4-4 on Monday night, thanks to a 29-8 victory over Central Mountain in high school action.
Connor Zupon threw three touchdown passes -- two to Jesse Parks for 59 and 67 yards, respectively, and for 13 yards to Colton Walk. Reid Starr added a 45-yard touchdown run.
