SELINSGROVE — Hollidaysburg quarterback Cole DeLattre accumulated 328 of total offense and recorded five touchdowns in the Golden Tigers’ 48-14 win over Selinsgrove on Friday night at Bolig Memorial Stadium.
Play of the game: On DeLattre’s second touchdown run, he snuck along the left sideline, broke through the second level of the Selinsgrove defense and took it to the house for a 97-yard touchdown run, his second of the night. That run gave the Golden Tigers a lead they never relinquished.
Player of the game: DeLattre. He ran for 205 yards and four scores on the ground and added another through the air, finishing with 123 yards passing yards.
Unsung heroes: Hollidaysburg’s line was dominant on both sides of the ball, especially on the defensive end. Up until a 77-yard touchdown run by Brett Rice on Selinsgrove’s final drive, the Seals were limited to minus-9 yards running the football while the Golden Tigers ran for nearly 8 yards per carry on the offensive end. Joseph Richardson, Bravin Matthews, Joey Keefer and Lucas Darnell were simply monsters up front.
Most deceiving statistics: Despite the big victory, the Golden Tigers made plenty of mistakes. Rice returned the game’s opening kickoff 85 yards to the end zone for the Seals. Hollidaysburg fumbled the ball three times and lost one of them. The Golden Tigers were also penalized 13 times for a grand total of 115 yards.
Hollidaysburg coach Homer DeLattre: “Cole had a really good game on the ground … the offensive line has done a good job of letting (DeLattre and Carter Muth) be able to be a good mixture together in the backfield.”
“That was our worst game by far. We talked about penalties before halftime. We still had a few in the second half, but they’re all fixable mistakes, so we’ll continue to work on those things.”
Selinsgrove coach Matt Wenrich: “It was playing another team of mountains. That’s a really good football team, a really well-coached football team.”
Cole DeLattre: “We knew it was going to be kind of a trap game. We compared it on Monday to Penn State going down to UCLA.”
Notable: The Seals’ offense was limited to 75 yards of total offense. They failed to pick up a first down until their final offensive play.
Records: Hollidaysburg (8-0), Selinsgrove (1-7).
Next week: Hollidaysburg travels to Williamsport. Selinsgrove hosts Berwick.
