ROARING SPRING -- Central finished the 2025 season on a high note, defeating Somerset, 36-12, Friday at Roaring Spring Athletic Field on senior night to end the year with three wins in their last four games.
For running back Coltin Harbaugh and the eight other seniors on the team, it wasn't just about the win, but how they won, gashing the middle of the defense for big gains to pull away in the second half.
"It was really exciting, but I couldn't have done it without my linemen," Harbaugh said. "It felt great getting some big yardage. Great way to go out."
Players of the game: Harbaugh ran for 108 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown. Jesse Muthler completed 12-of-21 passes to eight different receivers for 145 yards.
Plays of the game: With his team trailing 6-0 and Somerset driving, J.J. Moushlian intercepted a pass deep in Central territory and returned it to the 36. Kaden Horn kept the drive alive with a 15-yard run on a fake punt. Seven plays later, Carter Schenk scored on a 6-yard run. The junior wingback took a direct snap, ran up behind the right guard, made a jump cut that caused two tacklers to miss and raced to the end zone.
After Somerset took a 12-8 lead, Harbaugh ran through the middle of the defense, driving the pile forward 18 yards. Muther completed passes of 23 and 19 yards to Bentley Dickson before Schenk crashed through the defense for a 1-yard TD run.
"We have so many players that just want it and have worked so hard for it. We went out and executed. It's as simple as that," Muthler said.
Trailing Somerset 14-12 at the half, Somerset recovered a surprise onside kick at midfield to open the third quarter, but two plays later standout running back and middle linebacker Drew Miller went down with an injury and did not return, leaving a huge void for the Golden Eagles on both sides of the ball.
Somerset coach Jeff Urban: "When you lose that on both sides of the ball, it opens up a lot of things (for Central). Then we're one-dimensional having to throw the ball all the time. We tried to make something happen on the kickoff. Got the ball, moved the sticks then Drew got injured."
Central took full advantage, moving the ball at will on the ground. The Scarlet Dragons scored on each of their next three possessions, including an electrifying 46-yard dash through the middle of the defense by Samaj Musei.
Unsung heroes: The offensive cleared a path for numerous backs to gain 217 yards in the second half to secure the win going away.
"Seniors M.J. Flaugh and Isaac Fedesco had really good games. Brody Mellott, another senior, also had a great game. That whole offensive line in the second half took absolute control of the game," Central coach Jerry Albright said.
Records: Somerset (2-8); Central (4-6).
Next week: The season has concluded for both teams.
