DAVIDSVILLE -- Cambria Heights rode a strong second half surge to survive a close battle against Conemaugh Township with a 34-26 final at Conemaugh Township Memorial Stadium.

Conemaugh Township got off to an early start, scoring on the first drive with a pass from Greyson Studer to Aidan Burnworth from 22 yards out. Cambria Heights attempted to tie it, but fumbled on the 1-yard line, giving the Indians the ball back. Cambria Heights forced a punt and quickly scored on a Kaiden Ivory deep ball to Nolan Clawson.

Conemaugh Township added two more scores to its lead with a touchdown from Brennan Lohr and a Studer pass to DJ Bambino. Cambria Heights closed out the half with a touchdown run from Clawson.

Following halftime, Dawson Warner ran down the field 49 yards and then punched it in from 4 yards out to give the Highlanders the lead. Conemaugh Township didn't go down just yet, scoring on another run from Lohr.

Following that touchdown, it was all Cambria Heights. Ivory found Bryce Lewis for a 50-yard gain before Warner gave the Highlanders the lead back. A big punt led to another long drive from Cambria Heights, leading to Clawson's third score of the night.

The Highlander defense stood strong, limiting the damage and walking away with a victory.

Play of the game: Right after Cambria Heights went up 34-26, Conemaugh Township started to put a drive together, but the Indians found themselves at fourth-and-14. Studer found Lohr on the screen, but Highlanders' defender Brayden DeArmitt made a clutch tackle just a yard away from the first down marker.

Player of the game: Cambria Heights running back duo Nolan Clawson and Dawson Warner combined for 207 yards, while Clawson added 59 receiving yards. They combined for all five touchdowns from the Highlanders

Unsung heroes: Cambria Heights' defense forced three punts in the second half and allowed just one touchdown after a three touchdown and one punt first half.

Most vital statistics: Cambria Heights rushed for 302 yards.

Cambria Heights coach Jarrod Lewis: "We've got to fix some things, especially defensively. I was pretty happy with how we played offensively, but defensively we've got to fix it. We must tackle better and do our assignments better. Credit to them, they came out fired up. They are a good football team and they are well coached. We knew it was going to be a battle and it certainly was tonight."

Conemaugh Township coach Brandon Studer: "I can't ask my team for a better effort than they gave tonight. When you play a powerhouse like Cambria Heights, you know what they are going to come and do. We challenge our guys to play to the best of their potential and I think they did that tonight.

Records: Cambria Heights (7-1); Conemaugh Township (4-4).

Next week: Cambria Heights hosts Homer-Center; Conemaugh Township travels to Northern Cambria.
