CAMP HILL -- Cedar Cliff scored on the first drive of the game and never looked back in a 28-6 victory over Altoona at West Shore Stadium on Friday night.
The Colts drove the ball down the field and were boosted by Landon Howell's 34-yard touchdown run to give them the lead.
On its next possession, Altoona responded with a 34-yard touchdown, with quarterback Mekhi Jackson finding wide receiver Cody Chathams down the seam. The extra point was blocked to make it a 7-6 game.
Cedar Cliff scored on its next possession to make it a 14-6 game on Alex Otero's 8-yard touchdown run. The Colts scored again with 10:24 left in the second quarter when Jalen Hinton hit Amarion Autry for a 38-yard touchdown pass.
From there, the Mountain Lions and Colts defenses did not yield any points until a late Cedar Cliff touchdown by Will White from 7 yards out pushed the score to 28-6, which was the final.
Altoona's play of the game: Jackson hit wide receiver Chathams for a 34-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter.
Player of the game: Howell had 139 yards and a touchdown on the ground and had one catch for 13 yards
Unsung hero: Chathams had a touchdown and interception for the Mountain Lions
Most vital statistic: Ten different Cedar Cliff players touched the ball at least once offensively for the Colts.
Altoona coach Vince Nedimyer Jr.: "We were able to put drives together but had a couple misreads here and there, and then when it's 21-6 we get a couple penalties called on us and have too much yardage to gain back. We'll go back and look at it and get ready for Carlisle."
Cedar Cliff coach Collin Gillen: "We're always trying to threaten people with the run and the pass any formation we are in and stretch the field horizontally, vertically. We got some guys that are playing really good football."
Notable: Altoona had one turnover -- a fumble -- and two turnovers on downs … From 10:24 left in the second quarter to 6:19 left in the fourth, neither team scored.
Records: Altoona (2-7), Chambersburg (5-4).
Next week: Altoona hosts Carlisle; Cedar Cliff visits Cumberland Valley.
