CURWENSVILLE -- Claysburg-Kimmel quarterback Mason Campagna had quite a night Friday at Coach Andy Evanko Stadium.
Campagna tossed five touchdown passes, scored once on the ground and added a pick-6 on defense to lead the Bulldogs to a 46-20 victory over the Golden Tide, who were celebrating homecoming.
The Bulldog signal caller ended his night with 243 yards through the air, completing 12 of his 19 pass attempts, while adding 60 yards rushing on nine carries.
Claysburg's Gavin Treon was on the receiving end of three of Campagna's TD throws, hauling in scores from 22, 8 and 57 yards as he totaled 87 yards on three receptions.
Play of the game: While plenty of Campagna's touchdowns were big, it was a Curwensville fumble late in the third that pretty much put the game away. Facing third-and-14 from their own 6-yard line, the Tide had a mishandled snap that resulted in a fumble that was recovered by the Bulldogs. Campagna hit Treon for a 8-yard score three plays later to make it 39-14 with 26 seconds left in the third.
Player of the game: Campagna found Jacob Herline for a 40-yard TD toss on the Bulldogs second play from scrimmage and his 42-yard pick 6 made the score 13-0 early in the second quarter. He added a second interception on Curwensville's next drive and also returned that one 42 yards to set up a 22-yard TD pass to Treon that upped the advantage to 19-0. His 30-yard touchdown run happened just four plays into the second half and came a snap after he had a 35-yard TD run called back on a holding penalty.
Unsung heroes: Bulldogs wideouts Tyler Mowry and Ayden Solder combined to catch five passes for 66 yards and a score on Claysburg's final drive of the first half that made it 25-6. Soler caught a 6-yard TD pass from Campagna with four seconds left in the second quarter to cap the 58-yard drive in response to Curwensville's Reed Hawkins' 75-yard kickoff return.
Most vital statistics: Curwensville turned the ball over six times, twice on Campagna interceptions, twice on fumbles and twice on downs. The Bulldogs followed four of those turnovers up with touchdowns.
Claysburg-Kimmel coach Chuck Kassick: "This is probably the best performance we have had all season. It was the most complete we have looked over four quarters all season. We were physical on defense and got after it and played well on offense."
Records: Claysburg-Kimmel (3-2); Curwensville (1-4).
Next week: Both teams play at home. The Bulldogs host Southern Huntingdon, while the Golden Tide welcome West Branch to Coach Andy Evanko Stadium.
