Claysburg-Kimmel Bulldogs ground Southern Huntingdon Rockets in lopsided affair

CLAYSBURG -- Homecoming at Bulldog Stadium Friday turned into a big party for the home team and fans. Claysburg-Kimmel did whatever it wanted against Southern Huntingdon and turned in an eye-popping 73-0 victory.

Senior Mason Campagna put a hurting on the Rockets, throwing for 240 yards and four touchdowns while adding two scores on the ground.

The 73 points are the second most ever allowed in one game by Southern Huntingdon.

Claysburg has won two in a row and four of the last five games. Southern Huntingdon has lost five straight after a season-opening win against Northern Bedford.

Play of the game: A second quarter 55-yard touchdown pass from Claysburg's Mason Campagna to Gavin Treon.

Player of the game: Campagna did all of his work in the first half, completing 19 of 20 passes for 240 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for two scores.

Unsung heroes: The Claysburg defense gets overlooked a little when the offense scores 73 points, but the Bulldogs worked a shutout and only allowed 81 yards in the first half to the Southern Huntingdon starters.

Most vital statistic: Claysburg scored on every one of its drives which means it never punted the football.

Claysburg-Kimmel coach Chuck Kassick: "We're starting to find our identity and pick up where our strengths are. Our kids have really practiced hard the last two weeks. When everybody is involved then everyone is having fun. We took what they were giving us."

Southern Huntingdon coach Fred Foster: "They were better than us in every aspect of the game."

Claysburg-Kimmel quarterback Mason Campagna: "It built a lot of confidence going down and scoring on the first drive and that gave us momentum. All my receivers are good, and I trust them all. My line gave me time."

Notable: Treon caught seven passes for 122 yards and three touchdowns. Seven different players caught a pass for the Bulldogs.
