High school football: Week 1 matchup notables

Altoona at Hollidaysburg, 7

Notable: Hollidaysburg is 5-2 in the series since it resumed in 2018 and has won the last two meetings.

Bedford at McCort-Carroll, 7

Notable: McCort has not beaten Bedford since 2017, but the teams have not played each other since 2022.

Bellwood-Antis at Clearfield, 7

Notable: Though the teams used to scrimmage often, this is the first regular-season matchup between the two.

Bishop Guilfoyle at Penns Valley, 7

Notable: These teams have met just once since 2006 — a 56-35 BG victory in the 2022 District 6 playoffs.

Central at Philipsburg-Osceola, 7

Notable: Central has won nine straight in the series and 12 of the last 13. P-O’s win came in 2011, 32-20.

Central Cambria at Richland, 7

Notable: Richland has won 11 of the last 12 meetings with the lone exception coming in 2015,16-15.

Chestnut Ridge at Johnstown, 7

Notable: These teams have met five times since Ridge joined the LHAC. The Lions are 5-0 in those games.

Huntingdon at Bald Eagle Area, 7

Notable: The Bearcats are looking for their first win since Oct. 27, 2023 in their season finale against WH.

Penn Cambria at Somerset, 7

Notable: This is a rematch of last year’s Class 3A state playoff game, won by the Panthers, 40-0.

Tyrone at Bellefonte, 7

Notable: Though the teams haven’t met since 2022, Tyrone has taken three straight in the series.

Berlin Brothersvalley at Claysburg-Kimmel, 7

Notable: Berlin has scored 87 points over the last two seasons in two victories over Claysburg-Kimmel.

Everett at West Branch, 7

Notable: Everett’s Jakobe Harman ran for 1,969 yards and 19 TDs in his 10-game junior season last year.

Glendale at Windber, 7

Notable: In 2023, Windber won this matchup by 45 points. Last season, Glendale beat the Ramblers, 14-7.

Juniata Valley at Newport, 7

Notable: The Buffaloes have not won more than two games in a season since going 4-2 in 2020.

Moshannon Valley at North Star, 7

Notable: North Star has outscored Moshannon Valley, 46-13, in two wins over the Knights since joining the ICC.

Northern Bedford at Southern Huntingdon, 7

Notable: The Rockets have a new head coach, Fred Foster, after NBC grad Aaron Batzel was not retained.

Tussey Mountain at Mount Union, 7

Notable: Mount Union has won the last three matchups in the series. Titans last won in 2019 and 2018.

Cambria Heights at United Valley, 7

Notable: United Valley, a co-op of United and Blacklick Valley, has almost an even amount of students from both schools.

Homer-Center at Northern Cambria, 7

Notable: NC has won 31 games over the last three seasons, which included the Colts’ first District 6 title.

West Shamokin at Portage, 7

Notable: WS went winless last season and was picked to finish last in the Heritage Conference by coaches this year.
