BEDFORD -- It was a tale of two halves on Friday night as the Bedford Bison sought revenge over a Week 5 loss to Chestnut Ridge.
After a first half filled with penalties, Bisons quarterback Quincy Swaim led the charge with two rushing touchdowns in the third quarter en route to a 27-10 victory over the Lions in a District 5 Class 2A semifinal game Friday night at Bedford Bisons Field.
"Quincy has been fantastic all year," Bedford coach Kevin Steele said. "He welcomed the opportunity and has been nothing short of fantastic both running and throwing the ball."
In the first quarter, Swaim connected with fellow senior Owen Tedrow on a 49-yard touchdown pass to get Bedford on the board.
"I have confidence in my quarterback," Tedrow said. "He's always thrown me good balls no matter what and I just wanted to get that catch and wanted to score.
On Sept. 20, Bedford lost to Chestnut Ridge 25-7, which gave the Bisons some extra motivation going into Friday's game.
"Our whole team wanted to win," Swaim said. "We had a bad taste in our mouth from the very beginning of the season when we lost to them."
With 0:16 left in the first quarter, Chestnut Ridge placekicker Thomas Kostenbauder nailed a 31-yard field goal to tie the game for the Lions.
Senior running back Haydan Webb also racked up a 2-yard touchdown run for the Lions.
"(Bedford) controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball," said Chestnut Ridge coach Max Shoemaker. "We hung with them, but in the second half, they kind of wore us down.
The win marked the final game on the grass field at Bedford Bison Stadium.
"That obviously adds some nostalgia to the victory," said Steele. "But at the same time, we're excited to play again next week.
