TYRONE -- Whenever you are playing somewhere special to you, you always want to find a way to make sure that the last performance is a great one.
For the Tyrone offense, one special connection had quite a finish in their final home game, setting the tone for the night.
Thanks to the explosive numbers put up by Ashton Walk (18-for-19 for 315 yards and five touchdowns) along with Trent Adams (seven catches for 157 yards and four scores), the Golden Eagles pummeled Central Cambria, 55-19, on Senior Night at Gray Veterans Memorial Field.
"Everyone played very well tonight," Ashton Walk said. "The line gave me time; the receivers were making plays. We didn't drop any passes.
"I've played here since Peewee and youth league. I've grown up here. It's been a pleasure and to go out like this on senior night is a huge thing for this town.''
Play of the game: Walk's pass to Adams early in the second quarter from 52 yards let the Golden Eagles start pulling away as they went up 28-13. The Red Devils were never closer for the rest of the night.
Players of the game: Walk and Adams
Unsung heroes: The Golden Eagle offensive line
Most vital statistic: Tyrone racked up almost 500 yards of total offense while almost doubling up the Red Devil production.
Tyrone coach John Franco: "When Ashton gets a few completions early on and he gets into a rhythm, and then our whole offense gets into a rhythm, we're hard to stop. We got the running game going with Seth (Hoover). We run just enough to keep the pressure off the throwing game.''
Central Cambria coach Don Fyfe: "We didn't reach our goals unfortunately for whatever reason. The ball didn't roll our way. I talked to the young kids (before the game and said), I'm watching you now. I know what I'm going to get from the seniors. My focus is on watching you underclassmen. How are you performing when the season isn't great? Are you continuing to battle? I can't say anything negative about the way they fight. We're just outmanned right now.''
Tyrone WR Trent Adams: "We know that whatever coverage (opponents) are in, we can make use of it. Coach Franco calls great calls, our line blocks for us, and we put it together.''
Notable: Grady Snyder, who had to play the quarterback position for the Red Devils, put up a superb 156 yards on 18 carries with two touchdowns ... There were no fumbles. ... Both sides were called for a combined three penalties.
Records: Central Cambria (0-8), Tyrone (4-4)
Next week: Central Cambria hosts Westmont Hilltop while Tyrone will travel to Penns Valley.
