BELLWOOD -- Penn Cambria's up-tempo offense lit up the scoreboard and its attacking defense smothered Bellwood-Antis Friday night to remain undefeated.
The Panthers scored twice in the opening 4:27 and two more times 4:33 apart in the second quarter on their way to 45-6, putting a damper on senior night at John R Hayes Field at Memorial Stadium.
Players of the game: PC's dual-threat quarterback Brady Jones passed for 129 yards, ran for 71 yards and had three total touchdowns.
Jones on the team's up-tempo offense: "We try to wear 'em down by going fast. It breaks the other team down. Our guys are conditioned well. The faster we can go, the better."
Thomas Plunkett ran for 81 yards and two touchdowns while Gavin Harrold accounted for 140 yards rushing and receiving and two touchdowns (one rushing, one receiving).
Penn Cambria coach Nick Felus: "We're starting to put it all together now. Brady Jones does a good job putting us in good situations. Gavin is Gavin. He's electric in the open field. He'll make you miss in a phone booth."
Plays of the game: On the third snap of the game, Brady Jones found Gavin Harrold streaking through the middle of the Blue Devils secondary deep downfield for a quick 41-yard touchdown strike.
Already leading 14-6 midway through the second quarter, Jones' elusiveness turned a potential sack into a positive gain. The junior QB rolled right and quickly found five defenders closing in on him. He made a couple guys miss, made his back left and headed up field for a 7-yard gain.
Jones: "I don't know how I got out of that one. Sometimes I surprise myself."
Two plays later, Jones weaved his way through the defense for a 17-yard score.
On PC's ensuing possession, Harrold took an inside reverse up the middle through the defense for a 29-yard TD.
Then in the third quarter, Jones went deep to Marcus Eckenrode, who was well covered on the play. The Bellwood defender batted the ball up in the air, and Eckenrode was able to snag it as he fell flat on his back at the BA 15. Two plays later, Jones hit Eckenrode on an in cut for a 9-yard touchdown, putting the running clock into effect.
Most vital statistic: Penn Cambria rolled up 437 yards of offense while holding Bellwood to just 189 yards.
Bellwood-Antis coach Nick Lovrich: "They're big and physical on the line. Their strength and speed hurt us. They have playmakers everywhere, which makes it tough to do anything."
Unsung heroes: Preston Farabaugh leads an offensive line that paved the way for one big play after another while Derek Hite anchors a defense that shut down Bellwood's running game and had QB Holden Schreier on the run all night.
