LOYSBURG -- When you're going through a back-and-forth night, sometimes you just need the perfect sequence.
It could go so well, it might remind you of a video game where everything goes exactly how you drew it up.
For a stretch of five minutes in the second quarter, Northern Bedford scored three touchdowns and blew the game open in the process on their way to pummeling Meyersdale, 35-14, on Homecoming night at Panther Community Stadium in ICC action.
Sequence of the game: Northern Bedford's defense forced a turnover on downs during the second setting up four play later Vaughn Schleinkofer's second touchdown pass of the game to Aaron Bowers to make it 21-6. The Black Panther defense would later force a three-and-out and off a short punt, Schleinkofer tacked on a third pass for the game, this time to Wesley Horsh to make it 28-6 at the half.
Players of the game: It's a tie between Schleinkofer who went 13-for-20 for 181 yards and three touchdowns, and Aaron Bowers who had six catches for 84 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
Unsung heroes: The Panther defense
Most vital statistics: Northern Bedford held Meyersdale to an average of two yards per carry rushing and held the Red Raiders to just over 100 yards passing.
Northern Bedford coach Garry Black: "(Schleinkofer) for us is a stud. He can throw laser guided missiles, and he was. (Aaron Bowers) had a huge half. When teams want to double cover him, it's opening up other stuff for other guys, and we are able to take advantage of things. I told the guys at halftime it was one of those things where I felt like I got to play Madden (in real life). The way the plays were supposed to work, they were working.''
Meyersdale coach Ryan Donaldson: "That caught us off guard as far as they were able to do. That's a great ball team. We know they bring a lot to the table offensively and defensively. They were able to execute things, get the ball to (Aaron Bowers), and we waited a little bit to adjust the way we probably should have sooner. Those couple stretches didn't work out in our favor.''
Notable: In addition to his strong night on the field, Schleinkofer was named Homecoming King and Avery Aungst was crowned Queen. ... The play clock due to technical issues was not available to the crowd for much of the game. ... The first downs were almost equal with Northern Bedford accounting for 18 to Meyersdale's 17.
Records: Meyersdale (3-4), Northern Bedford (6-1).
Next week: Meyersdale will travel to Brownsville while Northern Bedford heads to North Star.
