EVERETT -- Much had been made all season long about the offensive exploits of Claysburg-Kimmel's Mark Lattieri and Mason Campagna.
On the opposite sideline, Everett's Jakobe Harman has put together quite an impressive individual season running the ball as well.
Harman proved to be too much for the Bulldog defense to contain, as he racked up 406 yards in helping the Warriors upset Claysburg, 50-36, on Friday night at Everett Warrior Stadium.
"We knew with their (Everett) size that they had, and (with) the size that we don't have and how good Harman was that this was going to be a dog fight at the very least," Claysburg-Kimmel coach Chuck Kassick said. "They controlled the line of scrimmage -- they really did. And Harman is special, he's a special kid."
Sequence of the game: With the score tied at 20-20 following back-to-back 4-yard TD runs by Claysburg's Mason Campagna, Harman began a string of scores of his own with an 11-yard scamper. C-K was forced to punt, and after a 7-yard punt, Everett got a 38-yard sprint to paydirt by Harman to make the score 36-20. Dillen Bell recovered his own onside kick and Harman crossed the goal line from 8 yards out to cap off an eight-play drive that put the Warriors up 24 (44-20) with 1:08 remaining in the opening half.
Everett coach Brian Koontz: "Obviously, the poor punt helped, and then we felt we had the opportunity to get something there in the middle of their (Claysburg) return so we did that (onside kick). We've got to take advantage of our opportunities, and we haven't always done that this year."
Player of the game: Harman, who rushed for 282 yards on 18 carries in the opening half, scored five times to go with his 406 total yards on the ground on 31 attempts. He scored on runs of 45, 11, 38, 8 and 1 yards, while also reeling off 16 different runs of 10-plus yards.
The junior got holes to run through from his guys up front but the runner also made plenty of C-K tacklers miss in the second and third levels, while also shrugging off many high tackle attempts from the Bulldogs to gain additional yardage.
Harman: "We just went out there, executed perfectly and came out with the win."
Unsung heroes: Everett's offensive linemen paved the way for Harman's night. The line that started and/or rotated in frequently consisted of seniors Zach Winck and Aiden Harriman, junior Trent Cessna, and sophomores Layne Whitfield, Ethan Stepanik and Levi Poe.
Harman: "They were big. My line gave me holes, they gave me cutback holes, too, and I hit them."
Most vital statistic: Lattieri and Campagna combined for 103 rushing yards. Lattieri exited the game for good in the second quarter due to an injury after picking up 49 yards. Campagna, who had 54 rushing, had 141 of his 189 passing yards in the second half.
Kassick: "When your best running back, and he's a special kid too, leaves the game in the middle of the second quarter your offensive game plan changes. He starts on defense, so our defense game plan changes.''
Notable: Lattieri got Claysburg-Kimmel on the board with a 15-yard rush in the first quarter. In addition to the two 4-yard touchdowns, Campagna reached from 5 yards out and tossed a 7-yard strike to Tyler Mowry to close out the scoring in the fourth. ... Collton Replogle and Paydden Knisely recovered fumbles for the Bulldogs. ... Everett quarterback Jonathan Cooper got his team out to a 12-0 lead when he hit Coty Cessna on a 17-yard touchdown pass and then found Bell from 5 yards out. Cooper was forced to leave the game in the third quarter after a sack by C-K's Remy Diehl. Diehl also blocked two PAT attempts. ... The Warriors were penalized 12 times totaling 132 yards, while the Bulldogs were whistled just four for 25.

Kassick on whether there's concerns heading into playoffs after giving up over 300-plus rushing yards in back-to-back weeks to an individual running back: "We made some adjustments in game, we made some adjustments at halftime -- I think the halftime ones helped a little bit. It's still a problem that we are very undersized at times. ... The two teams we just lost to with good running backs (Mount Union's Nasir Collins had 311 last week), they're also double-A schools. They've got two or three times our enrollment. So, it's not like we're playing some small school from Mollyville or wherever it is. These teams are bigger than us, they've got more kids, bigger enrollment.''
