TYRONE -- After falling behind 20-13 in the third quarter, the Clearfield Bisons exploded for 33 unanswered points to deliver Tyrone a 46-20 Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference defeat last night at Gray-Veterans Memorial Field. Clearfield took to the ground in the second half and dominated the line of scrimmage, with the Bisons totaling 209 of their 344 rushing yards in the second and third quarters.
Senior Brady Collins led Clearfield's rushing attack with 234 yards.
Play of the game: Following a pick-6 by Tyrone's Klayton Moore that had the Golden Eagles ahead 20-13 a minute into the second half, Collins took a swing pass from Xavier Curry and sprinted 68 yards down the sideline for a touchdown that made it a 1-point game. On the second play after Tyrone got the ball back, Collins then picked off Ashton Walk and returned it 39 yards to put the Bisons ahead 25-20, and they would never trail again.
Player of the game: Collins scored six times and averaged 11.1 yards per carry. Along with his interception, he also had a sack on defense.
Unsung heroes: In his first varsity start, Curry completed 4 of 9 passes for 117 yards, ran for a 10-yard score in the second quarter, and picked off Walk in the fourth.
Most vital statistics: Clearfield stopped 7 of Tyrone's 15 running plays behind the line of scrimmage while breaking off 14 runs of 10 yards or more when they had the football. For the game, the Bisons averaged 7.1 yards per carry.
Clearfield coach Myles Caragein: "He's a great athlete, he has a great attitude, and he's a competitor. He wants to win, and the team rallies around him. He's a great leader. When Brady gets going, it picks the team up. He did a great job tonight."
Tyrone coach John Franco: "The turning point was not scoring when we got the ball back in the red zone," Franco said, whose team had the ball inside Clearfield's 30 up 20-13. "(Collins) is an All-State caliber player. He played a fantastic game on both sides of the ball. He's a first-team All-State player in my book. There's no doubt about it."
Notable: The Golden Eagles turned the ball over a total of four times, including fumbles on two of their first three possessions ... while the Bisons fumbled three times, they were able to recover each one ... Walk completed 11 of 23 passes for 204 yards ... Trent Adams had 3 receptions for 92 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter ... Hoover scored the Eagles' other touchdown on a 57-yard run.
