HOLLIDAYSBURG — Hollidaysburg coach Homer DeLattre joined his son, Caden, on the field prior to Friday night’s game at Tiger Stadium as part of the senior night ceremony.

Early in the second quarter, he was forced to play his other son, sophomore Cole DeLattre, after starting quarterback Drew Wyland re-injured himself.

The Golden Tigers’ other quarterback, Maddox Bainey, was on the sideline in street clothes after being injured in a recent game.

Caden DeLattre caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Wyland in the first quarter and returned an interception 55 yards for another score in the fourth quarter.

Cole DeLattre, who starts on the junior varsity team, threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Brady Steiner in the second quarter and handled himself well in a 44-23 shootout victory over DuBois at Tiger Stadium.

“Cole’s our third quarterback and he did a really good job,” Homer DeLattre said. “Both (of my kids) had great nights. I’m real proud of both of them.”

“Cole had that one fumble, but he was very composed and even threw a touchdown pass.”

Junior Mitchell Baronner, who missed last week’s game with a thumb injury, turned in the first 100-yard game of his career, and he also scored three touchdowns for the Tigers.

“First time for 100 yards, first time for three touchdowns,” Baronner said.

“I’ll take it. It really felt good to be able to contribute some yards and touchdowns. I thought we played pretty well as a team, too.”

Play of the game: With Hollidaysburg clinging to a 14-9 lead early in the second quarter, DuBois quarterback Trey Wingard tossed a 99-yard TD pass to Kaden Clark that would have given the Beavers the lead. But Wingard was flagged for an illegal pass after he crossed the line of scrimmage before throwing.

Player of the game: Wingard completed 28 of 46 passes for 434 yards and two touchdowns. He also was intercepted three times, and Holllidaysburg turned two of the miscues into touchdowns.

Unsung hero: Senior Drew Banks had one of the Tigers’ three interceptions, returning it 46 yards. Banks also blocked Garret Nissel’s punt out of the end zone in the second quarter for a safety.

Most vital statistic: DuBois racked up 590 yards total offense, but managed just three touchdowns. The last one came on Nissel’s 83-yard run with a little over six minutes left in the game.

Notable: Hollidaysburg played one of the toughest independent schedules in the state. The Tigers’ five losses are to teams with a combined record of 40-3-1. Three of those teams are still unbeaten. Hollidaysburg’s four wins have come against teams that are 16-23. … Defensive lineman Wyatt Maines had an interception for the Tigers that set up a TD. … Baronner scored on runs of 3, 19 and 4 yards. … Cole DeLattre completed 7 of 13 passes for 52 yards in three quarters of work. … Caden DeLattre caught three TD passes in last year’s 36-35 comeback win at DuBois. … Kaden Clark caught eight passes for 150 yards to lead DuBois, including TDs of 57 yards and 2. … Nissel finished with 147 yards on 13 carries and went over 1,000 yards rushing for the season. … Edward Burkett kicked a 24-yard field goal for the Beavers.

Homer DeLattre: “They’re a really good offensive team and that quarterback is very good. We were pretty efficient on offense for the most part. We finished running the football well, which made us really happy. Mitchell Baronner was fresh. He didn’t play last week. He looked good all week in practice and he showed fresh legs out there.”

Records: DuBois (4-6); Hollidaysburg (4-5).

Next week: Hollidaysburg plays Central Mountain next weekend in the District 6 Class 5A championship game at a neutral site.
