SPRING MILLS -- Penns Valley rallied from a 21-7 fourth-quarter deficit, scoring on three touchdown passes, to stage a furious 28-21 come-from-behind win over Tyrone on Friday night at the Penns Valley Area High School football field.
Play of the game: With 1 minute left in the game and facing a fourth-and-3 from Tyrone's 34-yard line, Miles Brooks gathered in a pass over the middle from quarterback Jackson Romig, made a man miss and sprinted into the end zone for the winning score.
Player of the game: Rams quarterback Romig completed 15-of-26 passes for 297 yards and three touchdown passes, all in the fourth quarter.
Unsung hero: Brooks not only caught the winning touchdown pass, but he also picked off a Tyrone pass in the waning seconds to end the game.
Most vital statistic: Romig completed 11 of 17 passes in the second half for Penns Valley.
Penn Valley coach Martin Tobias: "There's no question this was a huge win for our program. We're still working on improving. Our kids show up every day for practice. They really do; they show up. We're not perfect, they're not perfect and they know that. But they're willing to work at it and try to get better. And it's little things. This helps to validate that.''
Tyrone coach John Franco: "As uplifting as last week's win was, this week's loss was as disparaging. The onside kick to start the second half (which Penns Valley recovered) I thought was a killer. That just set the tone for the whole second half. I congratulate Penns Valley. I thought they outplayed us, outcoached us in the second half. They deserved that win.''
Penn Valley wide receiver/defensive back Miles Brooks on the game-ending interception: "I was just playing deep, nothing behind me. I saw the wide receiver go on a fade route and I saw the quarterback eyeing him up. The ball was in the air and it was just slow motion right into my arms. It was awesome.''
And about the winning score: "I was just worried about getting the first down. Three yards was all we needed. That's where it started and everything opened up from there. Then I was in. It feels phenomenal."
Notable: Tyrone quarterback Ashton Walk was flawless in the first half, going 9-for-9 for 78 yards and two touchdowns.
Records: Tyrone (6-2); Penns Valley (6-2).
Next week: Tyrone hosts a 1-7 Hollidaysburg team while Penns Valley visits Midd-West High School out of District 4 near Selinsgrove.
