WILLIAMSBURG -- Aden McMonagle and his fellow seniors weren't ready for Friday to be their last home football game at Williamsburg.
Three touchdowns and 141 rushing yards later, McMonagle assured the Blue Pirates of a playoff game at home with a 22-13 triumph over Everett.
"This makes us move up in the playoff rankings, and that's what we were hoping for," McMonagle said. "We talked all week about how this could be our last home game, and we knew it wasn't going to be. We came out as hard as we could and got the 'W' to get another home game."
McMonagle's 24-yard run for a touchdown late in the third quarter put Williamsburg ahead by two scores, and two more short touchdown runs helped hold off an Everett rally in the fourth quarter. He also passed for 45 yards.
"We beat some teams this year, but this was the first team we beat that came in with a winning record," Williamsburg coach Bob Hearn said. "I told the kids we needed a signature win against a good football team, and Everett is a good football team. I'm proud of our kids, especially on defense."
The Blue Pirates managed just a 27-yard field goal by Nick Michelone in the first half, and McMonagle was shaken up late in the first quarter.
"(McMonagle) got the wind knocked out of him, but he's so tough," Hearn said. "Along with Chandler Gunnett, they make a great duo. The guys up front block so well. Those are hard-nosed football players that helped us get a big win."
Gunnett finished with 93 yards on 15 carries, many of those for crucial first downs.
Williamsburg forced a pair of fumbles that led to scores, and the Warriors hurt themselves with six penalties for 75 yards.
"Bottom line is, you can't fumble the ball against a good ballclub," Everett coach Winston Redman said. "Turnovers cost us. They play excellent defense, and I said all week that Williamsburg's quarterback is a tough kid."
Everett seemed to have taken a 6-0 lead on a Derek Lasch 26-yard touchdown run on the Warriors first drive, but that was wiped out by a holding penalty. Everett failed to score following the hold.
"Why does the official wait until the ball crosses the goal line to throw a flag from 15 yards out after we crossed the goal line?" Redman said. "I can't figure that one out. If you've got a hold, you throw the flag. You don't wait until the play is over and then say there is a hold.
"That was bush league, and what the reply to me was that it was (the official's) first time as a sideline judge. Unbelievable. But it wasn't the referees' fault. They called a good game other than that call. The other calls were legit calls."
The Warriors got a 15-yard touchdown run from Austin Brown and a 33-yard Steven Sheaffer touchdown catch on a throw from Macen Akers.
While Williamsburg was feeling good about its playoff position heading into its season finale at Moshannon Valley next Friday, Everett's playoff hopes are dim.
The Warriors may be playing their final game at Juniata Valley next week and can only make the playoffs if Westinghouse does not make the Pittsburgh City League title game.
"I found out about the playoff situation on Tuesday," Redman said. "I've told the kids all year that if we got five or six wins we were in. All of a sudden, I get a surprise Tuesday that they had a meeting and there was a plan in place.
"So Westinghouse, regardless if they win the City (League) championship or lose it, we're out. If they don't make it to the championship game, they are still in, and we have to go to Westinghouse to play. How can they have their cake and ice cream both? I just don't understand that."
