Bishop Guilfoyle boys click on all cylinders

Taurean Consiglio

When everything goes according to plan, you know it’s a great day at the office.

The Bishop Guilfoyle Academy boys basketball team executed their game plan to perfection on Wednesday night as they came away with a 64-27 victory over Central at the Pleasant Valley gymnasium.

“I thought we did an excellent job all around,” Bishop Guilfoyle coach Ryan Lestochi said. “That was about as happy as I’ve been with how we had a game plan and executed it.”

In the first frame, the Marauders senior duo of Jake Kissell and Taurean Consiglio contributed seven and six points respectively. The pair tallied almost half of the team’s 24 points in the quarter.

“We’ve been a team over the last couple years that usually gets a few guys in double figures,” Lestochi said. “We preach a lot of sharing the ball and getting the best shot regardless of who takes it.”

In the third quarter, junior Grant Okonak tallied six total points to boost the BG lead to 56-20 heading into the final frame.

“We want to build day by day,” Lestochi said. “We’re trying to get better every day, every game.”

With only seven games left on their schedule, the Marauders continue that focus as the playoffs approach.

“It’s a little different circumstances here at BG,” Lestochi said. “The football team’s good, and they bleed into basketball season; we start behind the eight-ball a little bit until we get those guys back and in shape.”

While Central kept the deficit to 10 points in the first quarter, the Marauders stellar defense was too much for them to handle.

“BG played exceptional basketball,” Central coach Paul Frederick said. “They do such a good job defending you; they keep you out of the paint.”
