The Altoona Area High School girls basketball will be back in the Harrisburg area on Friday night.
The Lady Lions, who edged Pennsbury, 37-34, on Tuesday at Mechanicsburg High School, will play their first PIAA quarterfinal game in 20 years on Friday night at Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg.
Altoona, the District 6 champ, faces District 12 third seed Cardinal O'Hara in a Class 6A quarterfinal game at 5:30 p.m. That game will be followed by a Class 2A girls quarterfinal between District 5 champ Berlin Brothersvalley and District 2 second seed Wyoming Seminary at 7 p.m.
The Central Cambria girls are also in action on Friday in the Class 3A quarterfinals, taking on District 7 champ Shady Side Academy at 7:30 p.m. at Armstrong High School.
The CC-Shady Side game will follow a 2A girls quarterfinal between District 6 champ Bishop McCort and District 10 champ Wilmington at 6 p.m.
Also Friday, the Johnstown boys will take on WPIAL champ Chartiers Valley at 7 p.m. at Norwin High School in a Class 5A quarterfinal.
The Altoona Area High School Fieldhouse will host a doubleheader on Friday.
In a 3A girls game at 5 p.m., District 7 No. 2 seed Greensburg Central Catholic meets District 3 champ Trinity. The winner of that game will meet the winner of the Central Cambria-Shady Side Academy game in the semifinals on Monday night.
In a 6A girls game at 6:30, District 7 top seed Canon-McMillan takes on 3-2 Dallastown. The winner of that game will meet the winner of the Altoona-Cardinal O'Hara game in the semifinals on Monday night.
Also Friday, Hollidaysburg Area High School will host a 5A boys quarterfinals game between 3-1 West York and 7-4 Moon at 6 p.m.
