For some of the participants in the Altoona Mirror Classic on Friday night, it was only last week when they stepped off the court for the final time. In the Williamsburg girls’ case, it was only six days ago.

But they were right back at it on Wednesday evening at The Summit for practice in preparation for their final game as high school seniors.

Williamsburg’s LeeAnna Royer and Regan Prough, Altoona’s Samantha Harpster and Kendall Cogan, and Bishop Guilfoyle’s Taurean Consiglio, Jake Kissell, and Tyson Lestochi were all present for practice for Friday’s games at Penn State Altoona’s Adler Arena.

Altoona’s Zaelinh Nguyen-Moore will also play on Friday, but was absent from practice.

The Williamsburg girls had a heartbreaking loss in the PIAA Class 1A championship on Friday in a 39-36 loss to Delaware County Christian. Lady Pirate coach Angela Detwiler will serve as the Blair County head coach.

Royer said after last week’s loss that she was confident that the Lady Pirates can get back to Hershey in the near future. She doubled down on that sentiment again.

“I know there are good things in the future,” Royer said. I have faith in Williamsburg, even though I won’t be there next year.”

The Altoona girls and Bishop Guilfoyle boys both lost in back-to-back games at Chambersburg High School in the PIAA semifinals. The Lady Mountain Lions also lost in a tough way to Dallastown, while the Marauders were eliminated by Trinity, which went on to win the Class 3A state championship.

It was the first time that the Altoona girls had gone to the state semifinals in 21 years.

“I thought it was special. We haven’t made it to the Final Four in a long time,” Harpster said. “It was special for the team, and I’m glad I did it with the team that I had. Having a
