Cambria County coaches group names scholar-athlete honorees

The Cambria County Basketball Coaches Association released its list of players who excelled in the classroom and on the court for the 2025-26 season, and it features players from the Mirror coverage area in Bishop Carroll, Cambria Heights, Central Cambria, Penn Cambria and Portage.

To qualify for the honor, players had to maintain at least a 3.5 grade-point average while lettering in their sport.

The student-athletes will be honored on Sunday at the CBCA All-Star game that will be held at Johnstown High School. The girls game is at 1 p.m. The boys follow at 3 p.m.

Lions recognized

A pair of Penn State Altoona basketball student-athletes were recognized for their academics this week, when the College Sports Communicators released its NCAA Division III cademic All-District teams.

Junior guard Mason Kargo, an accounting major, took a spot on the Academic All-District team for men’s basketball, while sophomore guard/forward Halle Kuzminski, a business major, earned the recognition for women’s basketball.

To be eligible for a spot on an Academic All-District basketball team, student-athletes must meet certain academic and athletic requirements.
