BG basketball doubleheader Saturday in Claysburg
PIAA Basketball Playoffs
Bishop Guilfoyle Academy basketball fans will be flocking to Claysburg on Saturday afternoon for the PIAA quarterfinals in high school basketball action.
The BG boys, coming off a win over South Park in the second round of the Class 3A field, will take on Westmont Hilltop at 2:30 p.m. at Claysburg-Kimmel High School. The two teams played each other during the season with the Marauders winning, 66-57. At 2 p.m. at Penns Valley High School, Forest Hills, the District 6 runners-up will play District 3 champ Trinity at 2 p.m.
In Class 1A, the District 6 champion Bishop Guilfoyle girls will play at 1 p.m. at Claysburg-Kimmel, taking on Saint Joseph’s Academy, which is the District 6 No. 3 seed. This will be the first meeting between the two schools this year.
Across Blair County at the Altoona Fieldhouse, also in the 1A field, Bishop Carroll and Williamsburg will tip off at 1 p.m. The Huskies are the No. 2 seed while the Lady Pirates are the No. 4 seed. This is the first meeting between the two schools this year.
In the Class 4A girls field, Penn Cambria will travel to Armstrong High School in Kittanning for a 3 p.m. start against Oakland Catholic, the No. 1 seed out of the WPIAL.
The only other District 6 team playing on Saturday is the United boys team, the District 6 Class 2A champion. It will play Paul Robeson High School, the District 12 second-place team, at 1 p.m. at Mechanicsburg High School.
