Central Cambria gets bounce-back ‘W’ over Lady Devils
BELLWOOD — Central Cambria came into Friday’s game against Bellwood-Antis looking to bounce back from its 17-point loss to Bishop McCort on Tuesday.
Behind a stellar shooting night from senior Keira Link, the Red Devils came out on top with a 71-42 victory at Bellwood-Antis High School.
Coming off its loss to the Crushers, Central Cambria came ready to play and executed its game plan on both ends of the floor.
“I thought we played a complete game offensively and defensively,” Central Cambria coach Brittany Bracken said. “We had really good spacing on offense and got a lot of players involved.”
Link led all Central Cambria scorers with 14 points on the night. Sophomore Katie George also contributed 12 points.
“Overall, I think we all did really good,” Link said. “It wasn’t just one person; it was all of us as a whole.”
Fellow senior Abigail Sheehan tallied 12 points on the night for the Red Devils, including six from beyond the arc.
“I think we played really well together as a team,” Sheehan said. “Good things happen when we work together, and we really showed that tonight.”
After their last game, Central Cambria was ready to play on Friday night to boost their confidence as it heads into the final portion of their regular season schedule.
“We needed this one,” Bracken said. “We lost to McCort, and we were unhappy with our performance, so we got back in the gym; it’s nice to execute and see our hard work pay off.”
Central Cambria’s perimeter power and solid rebounding became too much for Bellwood-Antis to handle.
“They shot the lights out tonight,” Bellwood-Antis coach Kyley Longo said. “They killed us on the offensive glass; we gave them way too many second and third shot opportunities.”
Despite the losing effort, the Blue Devils shot 63 percent from the charity stripe, contributing to most of their points.
Lilly Gerwert led Bellwood-Antis with 14 points, and Leigha Clapper added 11 points
