The Altoona Area High School Fieldhouse officially opened its doors to athletic contests beginning with the 1974-1975 school year. On Monday, AASD Athletics will recognize this 50-year milestone during the girls and boys basketball games.
The AAHS Lady Lions will play Harrisburg, a game that has been postponed and rescheduled two times this week due to weather, at 5 p.m. (varsity only) and the boys will play Mifflin County at 6:30 p.m. (varsity only).
Over the past 50 years, the AAHS Fieldhouse has served as host site to many championship events, including gymnastics league championships, District 6 swimming championships and PIAA regional and semifinal games in basketball, volleyball and wrestling.
It's also been a host site to the Altoona Rotary tournament and the Great Chevy Shootout for high school basketball.
