HOLLIDAYSBURG -- The Hollidaysburg girls basketball team is marching toward its fourth consecutive 20-win season.
Lately, there's not much that has been able to slow down the Lady Tigers.
Hollidaysburg ran its winning streak to 11 games Monday night, and remained unbeaten in the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference with a resounding 55-13 victory over Tyrone.
The Lady Tigers also improved to 13-1 overall and 11-0 in the conference as junior guard/forward Makenna Weimert scored a game-high 15 points and senior guard Alissa Heim added 14.
"It's the style of basketball we're playing right now," Hollidaysburg coach Deanna Jubeck said. "On any given night, we have a handful of kids who can score in double digits. Tonight it was their night.
"Our next game, it could be two others. But we're doing a good job of sharing the basketball and getting everyone involved. Offensively, things have been very contagious. That basket is just getting bigger each night."
Weimert and Heim scored seven points apiece as Hollidaysburg raced to a 17-0 lead against Tyrone (7-6, 5-6 LHAC).
"From the start, we came up with a lot of energy, tried to work on our sharp passes and finish our layups," Weimert said. "It really depended on us making our layups today, and I feel like we finished a lot."
Alayna Woomer finally got the Lady Eagles on the scoreboard with a driving layup with 2:10 left in the first quarter.
But Tyrone went scoreless for the next 13 minutes until Woomer hit a 3-pointer to make it 30-9 in the third quarter.
The Lady Eagles converted just four baskets and four free throws in the game.
"There's not a lot to really say," Tyrone coach Mike Whitling said. "They're a fabulous team; they're really good. We were coming off two days off and we didn't get a chance to practice (Sunday).
"I am not taking anything away from Hollidaysburg, but we have a little bit of sickness going through our team and that definitely changes the dynamics a bit."
Hollidaysburg triggered a running clock with 3:29 left in the third quarter on Clare Padamonsky's basket that made it 39-9. But the Lady Tigers' uncharacteristically struggled at the free throw line, making just 6 of 15 attempts.
"We'll blame that on the polar Siberian Express," Jubeck said, smiling. "Maybe the rims were a little bit frozen, so we'll blame that on the cold weather."
Since Feb. 25, 2021, Jubeck has guided the Lady Tigers to a 91-9 overall record.
Hollidaysburg also is 29-0 overall in the regular season since joining the LHAC last season. But the Lady Tigers, who compete in the East Division, did lose 46-44 to Forest Hills in the conference semifinals a year ago.
"We just work hard every day at practice and try to build each other up and we just have to keep working together," Weimert said. "We just have to keep pushing through the season."
Jubeck concurred.
"Ultimately, we have to prepare for February and March," she said.
