CARLISLE -- Altoona seized control from the start against Carlisle -- getting up by 25 after one quarter and 40 at the half -- in a 66-22 victory Wednesday night in girls high school basketball.
Lanie Wilt led the balanced Lady Lions with 14 points, while Samantha Harpster delivered 12.
Altoona, which recently notched its 1,000th career win in program history, will hold a celebration of the feat at halftime of Friday's 6:30 p.m. game at the Fieldhouse against Chambersburg.
Altoona athletic director Phil Riccio said he is expecting about 70 former Lady Lions, along with some ex-coaches, to be on hand for the celebration.
"One thousand victories for this program is incredible,'' Riccio said. "The Lady Lions have been a huge part of our community, and this is something special that we can honor them with.''

WATERFALL -- Trailing by two heading into the fourth quarter, Northern Bedford outscored Forbes Road by 10 to pull out a 42-34 victory in girls high school basketball.
Addie Love knocked down three 3-pointers and totaled 14 points to lead the Lady Panthers, which led 17-9 at the half, while Halle Baker finished with 10 points.
