Lady Lions leave Butler with win

BUTLER -- The Altoona girls basketball team used a 22-8 showing in the third quarter Saturday to beat Butler, 68-41, at the Butler Tournament on Saturday in high school play.

Lanie Wilt and Raylin Eyer each had 15 points for the Lady Lions, who improved to 8-2. Zaelihn Nguyen-Moore chipped in 13 for Altoona, which led, 30-24, at halftime. Brionna Hudson and Melana Eyer contributed 12 and 10 points, respectively. Hudson added 12 rebounds to go with 10 boards from Nguyen-Moore.

Amelia McMichael led Butler (6-4) with 10 points.

BG dealt first loss

PITTSBURGH -- Bishop Guilfoyle Academy was handed its first loss, a 60-43 setback to Peters Township, in a game held at North Allegheny High School.

The Lady Marauders (5-1) got 12 points from Stella Yeskey in a game they trailed at halftime, 28-22.

Ashlynn Morreale led Peters Township (9-1) with 18 points.

Duo lead Lady Pirates

WILLIAMSBURG -- Williamsburg got 26 points from LeeAnna Royer and 21 points from Levada Gorsuch in a 70-37 win over Tussey Mountain in the Williamsburg Christmas Tournament.

The Lady Pirates, who led 49-20 at halftime, also got 12 points from Anastasia Ranalli en route to their eighth win in nine games.

Tussey (7-2) got 19 points from Addyson Weyandt.

Gorsuch was named MVP of the tourney, while Royer and Ranalli were named to the all-tourney team, along with Weyandt and Tussey teammate Karah Husick.

HUNTINGDON -- Juniata Valley improved to 4-6 with a 36-31 win over Mount Union in the Huntingdon Lions Club Tournament consolation game held at Juniata College.

Aubrey Anderson's 16 points were tops for the Lady Hornets, who led 20-15 at halftime. Teammate Kassidy Watson added 14 points.

Mount Union (2-6) got 13 points from Cailyn Skopic.
