Notable: Union defeated Williamsburg in this round last season and went on to knock off Berlin Brothersvalley in the semifinals before winning the state title over Lourdes Regional. ... Union's bus got stuck in a traffic jam on the PA turnpike on the way to the Scotties' game against Northern Bedford that delayed the tip-off. ... Notable: Berlin Brothersvalley is 16-22 all-time in the PIAA tournament. ... Berlin had never made it to the quarterfinal round until 2019 when it won the PIAA championship. ... The Lady Mountaineers made it back to the PIAA semifinals last season but lost to Union, 45-31. ... Williamsburg and Berlin have played twice this season. The first meeting in Williamsburg was won by the Lady Pirates, 46-42. ... The second meeting was for the Inter-County Conference championship and was won by Berlin, 60-47, in a game that the Lady Mountaineers scored nine straight points without the Lady Pirates touching the ball. Berlin made a 3-pointer and while it was in the air a foul was called on Williamsburg that gave Berlin the ball back. It scored a basket off the inbounds pass and a technical foul was whistled on Amy Hileman. Berlin made both free throws and then scored another basket before Williamsburg finally got the ball back. ... Williamsburg made the PIAA semifinals in 2022 before it lost to eventual state champion Northumberland Christian.
