HERSHEY — The Bishop Guilfoyle Lady Marauders once again reign supreme.
BG defeated Mountain View, 35-17, Friday afternoon at the Giant Center in Hershey to win the PIAA Class 1A girls basketball championship.
The victory was Guilfoyle’s eighth PIAA girls title, and second under head coach Kristi Kaack.
BG’s eight state championships are tied with Archbishop Wood for the most in PIAA history. Wood shoots for No. 9 in Class 5A on Saturday.
Guilfoyle’s swarming defense forced 21 turnovers.
Freshman Morgan Ruggery led BG’s balanced offense with eight points. She added five rebounds, five steals and four assists.
The Lady Marauders finished the season with a 29-3 record and closed with eight straight wins.
It was BG’s 14th trip to the state final, and the Lady Marauders are now 8-6 in pursuit of the gold ball.
Mountain View, making its first PIAA title game appearance, wound up 24-5.
