Altoona Area High School will be hosting a doubleheader to kick off Friday's portion of the PIAA playoffs.
The District 6 Class 1A runner-up Williamsburg boys play District 9 third-place finisher Cameron County at 6 p.m., and that game will be followed by the Altoona girls hosting WPIAL fourth-place finisher Chartiers Valley at 7:30 p.m. in a 6A game.
Those are just two of the 11 teams from the Mirror's core coverage area with games this weekend. Five will be played Friday and six are scheduled for Saturday.
In addition to the Altoona girls, the Bishop Carroll boys and Portage girls will host playoff games Friday night. The District 6 Class 1A champion Huskies will host District 9 fourth-place finisher Johnsonburg at 7 p.m. and the District 6 Class 2A runner-up Lady Mustangs will host WPIAL third-place finisher Aliquippa at the same time.
The Bellwood-Antis girls, who finished fourth in District 6 Class 2A, will travel to WPIAL champion Greensburg Central Catholic for a 7 p.m. game.
On Saturday, the Hollidaysburg girls and BG girls will host opponents in afternoon games.
The District 4-6 champion Lady Tigers will take on District 3 sixth-place finisher Manheim Central at 2:30 p.m. in a 5A game, and BG, the District 6 Class 1A champions, will host WPIAL fourth-place finisher Riverview at 3 p.m.
At the same time, the DIstrict 6 Class 1A runner-up Williamsburg girls will take on WPIAL third-place finisher Aquinas Academy at Claysburg-Kimmel.
Three other area teams face road trips on Saturday.
District 6 Class 3A third-place finisher Bishop Guilfoyle will travel to WPIAL runner-up Burrell for a 1 p.m. game, and the Claysburg-Kimmel boys, who finished fourth in District 6 Class 2A, will play at District 4 champion Muncy at 5 p.m.
The Northern Bedford girls, who finished as the District 5 Class 1A runner-up, travel to District 9 runner-up Ridgway for a 2 p.m. game.
