The Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic girls basketball team came into Monday night's Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference matchup against Penns Valley winners of six of its last seven games.
The Lady Marauders pushed their winning streak to three and finished the regular season 20-2 by beating the Rams, 56-35, at the Pleasant Valley Gymnasium.
Bishop Guilfoyle got off to a slow start but finished strong.
"I felt like we were a little sloppy," Lady Marauder coach Kristi Kaack said. "I wish we would have finished a little better around the rim."
Freshman forwards Anberlyn Petrecca and Maurie Querry led all Guilfoyle scorers with 11 points each.
"She (Petrecca) did really well," Kaack said. "She found a couple of wide-open (3-pointers), and she knocked them down tonight.''
Petrecca tallied nine points in the first half.
"For our team, it was a good team effort," Petrecca said. "We worked together really well, we moved it really well, and our shots were falling tonight.
In the third quarter, sophomore Stella Yeskey contributed a basket, and freshman Morgan Ruggery racked up four points for Bishop Guilfoyle.
"We feel like everyone contributes," Kaack said. "We went nine deep tonight, and we felt pretty good about all the minutes we got all around.''
Penns Valley was pleased with its defensive discipline against a very good Bishop Guilfoyle team.
"They're a very good team," Rams coach Terrance Green said. "For us, it was coming out here and fixing some things defensively."
Ell Dinges led all Penns Valley scorers with 10 points.
"She's our leading scorer," Green said. "That's what she's been doing all season so it's no surprise for us."
Bishop Guilfoyle will now head to Bishop McCort on Thursday for a Laurel Highlands semifinal game. The championship is scheduled for Saturday.
BG lost to McCort, 61-57, on Feb. 2.
"We're excited to play them again," Kaack said. "We struggled -- we turned the ball over a lot when we played McCort last time, so we're looking to clean that up.''
