Foor’s big night fuels Guilfoyle

Bishop Guilfoyle junior shooting guard Nick Foor finished with a career-high 20 points, leading the Marauders to their sixth victory in the last seven games, beating the Bald Eagle Area Eagles, 81-47, at the Pleasant Valley Gymnasium on Wednesday Night.

The win kept Bishop Guilfoyle (12-3 overall) undefeated in the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference at 11-0.

“We’re in a good spot in the conference,” Marauder coach Ryan Lestochi said. “We really would like the No. 1 seed so we can have a home game (for the conference tournament).”

Foor led all Guilfoyle scorers in the first half with 15 points. Junior forward Trevor Rehm racked up six points in the first quarter and two in the second, finishing with eight, going 2-of-2 from the foul line.

“I want to thank my teammates,” Foor said. “When I was open, they found me the ball, and we did a good job of sharing the ball the entire game.”

In the third quarter, Foor tallied five points, while Tyson Lestochi and Jude Haigh chipped in five points each for the Marauders. Torin Robertson also contributed six fourth-quarter points.

“Nick was great tonight,” Lestochi said. “Nick is beloved on this team. The guys love him, and they love when he does well.”

Bald Eagle Area senior guard Dru Smith finished with 20 points.

“I appreciate Dru’s confidence early,” Eagles coach Kris Glunt said. “He got himself going, and it was good to see because we didn’t have a lot of other production from anyone else.”

Despite the losing effort, Glunt believed the will to compete was there.

“Our kids almost 100 percent of the time will compete until the whistle,” Glunt said. “I’m not sure we gave that best effort tonight, but tough game — their home floor, very talented group.”

After falling by three points to Trinity on Saturday, Bishop Guilfoyle continues to strive for improvement.

“We’re just trying to really get better day by day,” Lestochi said. “We still have some things we need to improve on because we believe in this team, and we believe we can make a run.”
