Williams earns Fred Bell title

GROVE CITY -- Glendale's top-seeded Daniel Williams recorded pins in all five of his bouts at the Fred Bell High School Wrestling Tournament to capture the 285-pound title on Saturday at Grove City High School.

Williams (26-2 with 16 falls) built a 9-0 lead on Laurel's Casey Wilson before pinning him in 2:54 in the championship finals.

George Campbell finished eighth at 172 for the Vikings, who finished 16th with 97 points in the 41-team tournament.

General McLane won the team title by 4.5 points over Penns Valley, 187.5-182.

Altoona wins jr. high title

The Altoona Area Junior High wrestling team won the Big 7 league championship tournament on Saturday. Altoona outscored the competition by more than 70 team points.

Deklan Barr of Altoona remained undefeated and won the Outstanding Wrestler award after winning the 115-pound weight class. Others winning titles for Altoona were Dominic Picciotti (94), Brandt Hite (101), Brayden Wible (122) and Michael Colyer (190).

Placing second were Mikey Nardozza (80), Liam Chirdon (87), Reese Hite (130), Dominic Verticelli (138) and Ryan Palladini (250). Placing third were Caleb Darpino (170) and Gavyn Weamer (210).

Altoona boys downed

LEWISTOWN --The Altoona Area High School boys basketball team fell to 1-14 with a 53-40 loss to Mifflin County on Saturday.

The Huskies were led by freshman Jack Curry with 14 points. Roan Greaser scored 19 for Altoona.
