Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic Lady Marauder freshman Maurie Querry led all scorers with 13 points en route to a 46-38 victory over Clearfield on Friday night at the Pleasant Valley Gymnasium.
The win moved Bishop Guilfoyle to 6-0. All of BG's points were scored by either sophomores or freshmen.
"We're very young," Lady Marauder coach Kristi Kaack said. "I feel like every game, we're learning a little bit more, and we're getting better.''
At the end of the first quarter, with the Lady Marauders down 14-13 to the Lady Bison, Querry scored eight points, going 2-for-2 from the foul line.
"She's tough," Kaack said. "She doesn't play like a freshman; she plays like a veteran.''
The Lady Bison got a jolt in the second quarter as Bishop Guilfoyle took a 24-19 halftime advantage.
Freshman Sonny Diehl led all Lady Bison scorers with 12 points. Senior Cayleigh Walker finished with 10 points while shooting 4-of-6 from the charity stripe.
"They're showing up every night," Clearfield coach Missy Heisel said. "We don't have a real deep bench; we don't have a real big squad of girls, but they show up and they're ready to go every night.''
Querry hit a 3-pointer in the second half and nailed two free throws in the fourth quarter. The Lady Marauders were able to keep Clearfield from overtaking them and secured the eight-point victory.
"I knew (the Lady Bison) were bigger," Querry said. "I knew I had to pull back and maybe get a couple outside shots or even look to set up my other teammates, which I feel like we did that pretty good."
Freshman Anberlyn Petrecca added eight points for BG.
The Lady Mauraders will host Williamsburg on Tuesday night at the Pleasant Valley Gymnasium, while Clearfield welcomes Tyrone.
