EBENSBURG -- Bishop Carroll Catholic announced Monday evening that it has hired former Penn Cambria assistant girls basketball coach Erika Strittmatter as its new varsity girls basketball coach.
Strittmatter takes over for Chris DeGol, who had coached the Lady Huskies the past three seasons and got Carroll to the PIAA Class 1A playoffs in 2022.
Strittmatter comes to Bishop Carroll with a decade of coaching experience with students of all ages, and has spent the last several at the varsity level.
"I am extremely thankful to Bishop Carroll Catholic High School for this amazing opportunity to continue coaching a sport I love," Strittmatter said. "I am grateful to Penn Cambria for their constant support over the last 10 years. I am very excited to start working with these wonderful student-athletes, and I cannot thank my family, friends, and mentors enough for always supporting me."
Bishop Carroll qualified for the District 6 postseason last year but did not make it into the PIAA tournament.
"We are fortunate to have Erika Strittmatter become the next head coach of the storied Lady Huskies program," Bishop Carroll Head of School Stephen Cotchen said. "I have confidence in her to not only be a great role model and teacher for our student-athletes, but also guide them to great success on and off the court. On behalf of the entire Husky community, we welcome her and look forward to what she can accomplish with our team."
Bishop Carroll competes in the very competitive Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference, which will be adding several teams next season. Strittmatter is familiar with the conference, having coached in it at Penn Cambria.
"We play in a tough conference with great opponents," Strittmatter said. "We are looking forward to this opportunity to compete, grow the game, and learn valuable life lessons through this great sport."
