Longtime Forest Hills football coach Don Bailey dies
SIDMAN — Legendary Forest Hills football coach Don Bailey died Sunday surrounded by his family at the age of 74.
A 1969 graduate of Forest Hills, he was a three-sport athlete that attended Southern Illinois on a football scholarship before graduating from California University of Pennsylvania.
At Forest Hills, Bailey was a teacher, principal and superintendent and made his mark as the football coach for 45 years — winning 375 games, 11 Laurel Highlands championships and 10 District 6 titles.
He was inducted into the Pennsylvania Football Coaches Hall of Fame, the Cambria County Sports Hall of Fame and got a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Football Foundation.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Diane and his sons Derek and Brandon Bailey — the current Richland football coach.

n The Central Cambria boys swim team finished sixth out of 19 teams at the Mark Hess Invitational in Indiana, Pa., on Saturday and were led by medalist Giles Westrick, who placed fourth in the 100-yard freestyle and fifth in the 50 freestyle. The Red Devils’ 200 freestyle relay team of Westrick, Ethan Haycisak, Angelo Persio and Tommy Corcoran was fifth. The Central Cambria girls were 11th out of 18 teams. Hollidaysburg finished 12th on the boys side and 12th on the girls side. Margaret Bandstra was eighth in the 100 butterfly, and Charlie Pollock was eighth in the 100 freestyle.
