AAHS gymnasts win again

The Altoona Area High School gymnastics team improved to 3-0 on the season Thursday night, thanks to a 133.6-124.95 victory over DuBois in scholastic action at the AAHS Fieldhouse.

“It was a team effort led by Katie Bettwy and Linae Heaster scoring 68.8 points,” Altoona coach Mark Biselli said.

Altoona won all but one event. Bettwy won the all-around with a 35.01 score and the floor with a 9.3 mark. She also finished first in the beam at 93. Heaster finished first in the vault (9.05) and third in the all-around event with a 33.7 score.

DuBois’ only win came from Kylie Bums on the bars.

Altoona is at Bellefonte next Tuesday night.

NBC edges Tussey girls

SAXTON — Alyssa Yeatts took a pass from Hannah Yeatts on a pick and roll to score a layup at the buzzer to give Northern Bedford a 41-39 win over Tussey Mountain in high school girls basketball.

Ava Verbit led NBC with 10 points.

Everett sets record

EVERETT — The Everett Area High School rifle team set a new state record Wednesday in its victory over Portage.

In its 1,424-1,090 over the Mustangs, the Warriors erased the state record of 1,422 that was set by Everett back during the 2018 season.

The winning team included Kinzey Williams (290), Laila Mills (287), Austin Ritchey (277) and Isaac Klahre (273). The 2018 team was made up of Luke Brambley (293), Allison Klavuhn (290), Camden Donahoe (289), Stephen Cessna (277) and Laurel Kuhne (273).

Portage got a 246 from Ana Selapack.
