Altoona Area High School gymnastics team defeats Ridgway

RIDGWAY — The Altoona Area High School gymnastics teams improved to 2-0 Tuesday night, thanks to a 135.35-129.725 victory over Ridgway.

Katie Bettwy was the all-around winner for the Lady Lions. She also won the pole vault, the bars, the beam and the floor. Teammates Linae Heasster, Karis McGhee and Chae Taneyhill also contributed with second-place points as well.

Altoona will host DuBois this Thursday.

BC rifle defeated

DuBOIS — The Bishop Carroll Catholic high school rifle team fell to 2-2, falling 1,325-1,197 to DuBois.

The Huskies got a 259 from Alena Nagle and a 243 from Eli Cunningham. DuBois was led by Hailey Straub’s 273 followed by Bradey Kiskaddon’s 271.

Archery event set

The Railroad City Archery Tournament will be held this Saturday at the Blair County Convention Center.

Approximately 260 students (grades fourth through 12th) attending will represent 32 different schools across Pennsylvania and Maryland.

Shooting times start at 9 a.m. and run through 5 p.m.

Bullseye and 3D competitions will be held. Bullseye is round archery targets, and 3D are the fake animal targets. They both will be going on simultaneously.

Reigning national champ Ava Castrogiovanni from Montrose High School will be competing. She will shoot 3D at 3 p.m. and bullseye at 4 p.m.

– Penn State freshman ice hockey forward Gavin McKenna helped lead Team Canada to a bronze medal at the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship following a 6-3 victory over Finland on Monday evening.

– Penn State hockey senior Jarod Crespo was named the B1G First Star of the Week while sophomore Charlie Cerrato and junior Aiden Fink earned second- and third-star honors, respectively.
