HOLLIDAYSBURG — South Fayette, the WPIAL runner-up, put an end to the Hollidaysburg girls soccer season, 5-0, at Tiger Stadium Tuesday in the first round of the PIAA Class 3A playoffs.

Fayette scored just 41 seconds into the game when Silvi Rossi found the back of the net off the rebound of an Ellie Jadlocki save.

“I’m really happy with the way we played,” South Fayette coach Nick Rosser said. “We were moving the ball pretty well. We definitely do have to work on some things on the attacking end to create a few more scoring opportunities for ourselves, but they are starting to catch on and getting better at it.”

Lily Chiappetta and Mia Deramo added first-half goals to make it 3-0 at the break before Rossi and Chiappetta tacked on a goal each in the second half.

South Fayette’s speed advantage was evident as it controlled the ball for 90 percent of play.

“They were pretty fast,” Hollidaysburg coach Tristan delGiudice said. “We have occassionally seen speed like that. Not a ton, but probably in three or four games.”

Despite losing 5-0, Hollidaysburg got an impressive performance from Jadlocki, a freshman. She stopped 20 shots, including several fantastic saves.

“She’s been amazing,” delGiudice said. “She was playing some varsity early in the season, but then our junior keeper went down with a concussion. Ellie had to step in, and she has done a fantastic job. I thought she played extremely well tonight. I’m really proud of what she was able to do this year.”

Hollidaysburg finished the season 13-6-1 and will graduate four seniors, including starters Jillian Sidney, Lily Chestney and Bailey Stoehr.

“I’ll remember the people, especially,” Sidney said. “Everyone was so positive, and we became really close over the season. We had a lot of freshmen come up and everyone had to get to know each other, but I think we all lifted each other up. We gave each other encouragement.”

South Fayette will play District 3 champion Cocalico in the PIAA quarterfinals on Saturday.

“It’s a little bittersweet,” delGiudice said. “This is the first group from when I took over coaching four years ago. It was a great way to finish with a district championship. I’m really proud of the girls. They played excellent all year. Jillian, Bailey and Lily — I have had them for four years. Brantley (Ackinclose) joined the team last year. I’m really proud of their effort. I know they are going to be pretty happy with how they played tonight. These Pitttsburgh teams are pretty tough. They had a number of Division I recruits, and that’s just not our reality here.”

South Fayette’s keeper, Caitlyn Thompson, is committed to Division I Miami of Ohio but never had to face a shot. By the time Hollidaysburg got its first shot with 23:38 left to play, she was out of the game.

Sidney said despite Tuesday’s loss, the memory of Hollidaysburg’s district championship will stick with her.

“It was amazing,” Sidney said. “I can’t even describe the feeling of everyone feeling so excited at the same time. I am really going to miss that.”
