HERSHEY -- The Hollidaysburg Area High School girls tennis team finished its season on Friday in the PIAA Class 3A quarterfinals, falling 3-0, to Lower Merion at the Hershey Racquet Club.
"We knew going in against the defending state champions was going to be a tall task but I am extremely proud of the girls and how they battled, Hollidaysburg coach Brian Denis said. "We always look at playing the best in the state as an opportunity to improve and see that there's not that big of a separation between them and us.
The Lady Tigers' Crosby Denis lost 6-1, 6-1 to Jasmine Taylor at No. 1 singles while Emma Moritz lost 6-0, 6-0 to Shaila Anolik at No. 3 singles. In doubles play, the No. 1 team of Taylor Eardley and Brooklyn Klingner lost to Lower Merion's Sydney Lancaster and Camille Cohen, 6-1, 6-0.
"We had an unbelievable season, arguably one of the best in program history," said Coach Denis, whose team finished 19-1. "And we have the entire team back. Our goal is to work even harder in the offseason and see if we take that next step to be included with the top two or three elite teams in the entire state."
Lower Merion (25-0), the No. 1 seed out of District 1 outside Philadelphia, will play Shady Side Academy Saturday morning in the semifinals.
