HOLLIDAYSBURG — The Hollidaysburg Lady Tigers basketball team came into Friday night’s game against the Central Lady Dragons looking to push its winning streak to three games.
Led by a 20-point performance from senior Clare Padamonsky, the Lady Tigers did just that as they cruised to a 69-32 victory.
In the first quarter, the Lady Tigers held Central to five points behind stellar defense.
“We always hang our hats on defense,” Lady Tigers coach Deanna Jubeck said. “We hope that our defense can lead to transition, and we were able to get out and do that from the start tonight.”
Of Padamonsky’s game-high 20 points, eight came in the first half.
“I’m super happy with how tonight went,” Padamonsky said. “I think, as a team, we shared the ball really well, which led to lots of points for all of us.”
In the second quarter, fellow Lady Tiger senior Alana Lightner contributed four points, including going 1-for-2 at the foul line.
“I always can do better: I think that’s my mindset,” Lightner said. “I think we shared the ball a lot.”
Seniors Makenna Weimert (14) and Jillian Sidney (11) also scored in double figures for Hollidaysburg.
Lady Dragon junior guard Addison Long led all Central scorers with 12 points, including two 3-pointers.
Right from the tip, Hollidaysburg’s stellar shooting was just too much for the Lady Dragons to handle.
“They’re a really good team,” Central coach Blake Over said. “They’re a really good team when shots aren’t falling for them, and when the shots are falling, it’s pretty tough to play against.”
The Lady Tigers have won the last three games by more than 20 points after opening the season with a four-point setback to Altoona.
“We just got to continue to get in the gym, and continue to keep on working,” Jubeck said. “It’s a work in progress. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.”
The Lady Tigers travel to Williamsport to face the Millionaires on Monday and play at Bishop Guilfoyle on Wednesday, while Central travels to Bedford on Tuesday.
