BELLWOOD — Bellwood-Antis’ Lilly Gerwert became the 16th player in program history to reach the 1,000 career point mark as she recorded a career-high 33 points in a 72-11 victory over Bellefonte on Friday night in high school girls basketball.

The senior, who needed one point entering the game, stole the opening tip and dribbled uncontested for a layup just five seconds into the contest to reach the milestone.

“Lilly has been an asset to our program,” Bellwood-Antis coach Kyley Longo said. “She has a great work ethic and holds herself and her teammates to a very high standard. She has worked tirelessly on her game and leadership. She is very deserving of this milestone and we are excited to see where her senior year takes her as she continues to work toward her goals.”

Gerwert drained four 3-pointers on the night as part of her 12 field goals as B-A grabbed a 32-5 lead after one quarter of play.

In addition to reaching the coveted mark, Gerwert passed former Lady Blue Devils and Division I player Sakeria Haralson (1,029 career points) on the all-time scoring list as her point total now sits at 1,032.

Up next on the list is Riley D’Angelo who ended her career with 1,039 points.

“She has joined a long list of fantastic Lady Blue Devil basketball players,” Longo said. “It is a club she should be very excited to join.”

Gerwert’s father, Brent, was also a 1,000-point scorer at Bellwood-Antis.

Marissa Cacciotti also reached double figures for Bellwood, which held the Lady Red Raiders scoreless in the second frame and scored 19 points itself to take a 51-5 advantage at halftime.
