Altoona’s Logan Wuckovich, Cambria Heights’ Bryce Lewis among all-staters
Altoona senior linebacker Logan Wuckovich landed on the Class 6A Pa. Football Writers’ All-State Team, which was announced on Wednesday.
Cambria Heights junior Bryce Lewis made the 2A team among other regional District 6 players.
“It’s four years in the making for (Logan),” Altoona coach Vince Nedimyer Jr. said. “He’s been a staple for us for four years. He really built off last season coming into this season. He’s always had a nose for the football.”
Wuckovich led the Mid-Penn Commonwealth Division in tackles in the regular season.
“Coach (Paul) Picciotti, our linebackers coach, has worked with him every day,” Nedimyer said. “He has for the last four years, and Logan is a kid that is a sponge when you are teaching him and talking to him about different things. His natural ability of just going and getting the football is really what earned him this recognition and being on the all-state team. Super proud of him, and his hard work finally paid off.”
Lewis finished with 38.5 tackles for loss and 14 sacks for the Highlanders.
“He had a very good season,” said Cambria Heights coach Jarrod Lewis, who is Bryce’s father. “This is his third year as a starter, and he really got to play with some outstanding defensive players the last two years and this year. I think he would be the first to tell you that he owes a lot of the success he had this season to his teammates.
“I want to credit him. He’s an extremely hard worker and does a lot of stuff on his own to improve, especially on the defensive side of the ball. He had a great season with tackles for loss and sacks this year. He really impacted games with his ability to get in the backfield and disrupt plays.”
No local players made the Class 4A all-state team.
In addition to Wuckovich, State College running back D’Antae Sheffey made the 6A squad.
Bentley Bainey represented McCort-Carroll at defensive back in 2A, and Richland got four players on the team — Grayson Mahla (athlete), Jacob Regan (quarterback), Jamere Christian (wide receiver) and Arnold Mugerwa (wide receiver).
